The Fault in Our Stars

8.6.14

Enchanting, inspiring and completely and unreservedly saddening – this is how I would describe John Green’s novel The Fault in Our Stars in three simple words.

After continuously badgering Kevin about seeing the film The Fault in Our Stars after reading the novel some time ago, he surprised me with tickets on Friday to go see the film.

Throughout the novel, I cried a river. Throughout the film, I cried a river– even if I already predicted what would happen within the film, I couldn’t help myself but let the tears fall.

If you’ve see it, you know what I’m talking about.

I felt as though John Green poured his heart and soul into the novel and with the help of Josh Boone, it became a film which wasn’t a letdown which I am endlessly thankful for. It’s hard to meet the standards of a book being turned into a film, but it was astonishing. I would definitely watch it again. And again. And possibly even again.

If you’re in need of a cry, please do read the novel, or watch the film. However, I highly advise you bring the tissues. I’ve warned you!

  3. I really loved the adaptation of John Green's book! I thought it honoured the book perfectly. I cried through the entire thing basically because it was incredibly beautiful and Laura Dern's portrayal of Hazel's mum was just so emotional!!

    1. I couldn't agree with you more. The characters they chose was almost exactly how I pictured them. Altogether in my opinion the characters had so much raw emotion.

  4. Im seeing it next weekend and I haven't read the book yet because the books always better than the movie and I normally feel a little let down when I see the movie.

  5. I read the book a year ago, and was waiting with baited breath for the movie ever since. I'm so relieved the movie was so good! Cried like a baby.

  6. It was so amazing! and uplifting while devastating all at once.
And very true to the book like you say, but I really wish they had included the bit where Augustus gets the letter with the very Shakespeare quote ("The fault, Dear Brutus, is not in our stars") in it, that explains the meaning of the title more explicitly. For me that was like the moment everything fell into place in the book. But that is probably just me haha.

I literally sobbed so so hard on the last sentence of Augustus' eulogy, I'm such a sap. But I'm very grateful for all that I have :)

  12. Lots of debate on this! I think the movie righteously did the novel justice, however, I didn't cry as much as I thought it would. I'm stricken, however, by the ending of it all. It was possibly the most beautiful ending to a movie that I've ever witnessed. I'm glad it lived up to your expectations though, and that you had someone to cuddle all throughout!
