Stevan's Story

2.9.14

Stevan has been my best friend for three years.

He has always intrigued and interested me. He was, and still is, different. And I like that. I like that he isn’t the same egotistical, narcissist individual a lot of people I knew were “back then” in high school.

He is truly one of a kind. Someone you hold onto and cherish because of their sweet, kind soul and their bizarre humor. He is someone you would go to when you’re feeling misunderstood because he understands and he loves with the whole of his heart.

Stevan is a beautiful person. Whether he is portraying himself as a feminine figure, whether he is portraying himself as a masculine figure or even in between as an androgynous figure. He is still beautiful in every shape or form.

Recently, Stevan asked if I could be his photographer for a day and of course I wasn’t going to reject the offer. It was an honor. And throughout the shoot I was inspired by his confidence to flaunt what he had. Male or female, it didn’t matter.

People with similar interest as Stevan deserve to be heard and respected, so here’s a little bit about Stevan and his story as an “androgynous” if we had to label.

"Being confident is not a constant trait of mine, it requires constant maintenance and repelling self doubt and other people's opinions of me. I push myself to think what people say about me isn't the truth; but their opinion. Sometimes though, the thin veils of nastiness from people strike through my guard like a slap in the face."

"Others will always try to break your interior based on your exterior, no matter where you go you have to accept that. But being different I certainly experience it a lot. But you have to brush it off you like water of a duck's back; because what matters are the people who love you for who you are. There's an old saying, it goes 'Those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.' People like Jes have made me realise who matters the most to me in my heart; keep those people close."

This was quite the lengthy post, I will admit, however I felt passionate and inspired to share Stevan’s story today. And I hope you are all just as inspired as I am.

Thank you Stevan. For being you, and for sharing your story wholeheartedly.

And thank you for reading!

  4. What really strikes me about a person is their individuality. Stevan's shines through and the confidence in these photos is just astounding. :) I really do appreciate that he keeps his loved ones and priorities close. It's a shame he's had to gone through unfavourable experiences, but I admire his strengthful attitude.
