XX | My Birthday

3.4.15

If you’re not familiar with roman numerals (don’t worry, I’m not either) then you probably don’t understand the “XX” in the title. To put it simply – it doesn’t need a lot of explanation at all – I turned the big 2-0 last week on Friday (27 March).

I thought turning eighteen was scary enough, but turning twenty was a whole new experience. Although I didn’t do anything extravagant for my birthday, I did feel it and that’s more than any other age I have turned in my life so far. That’s saying something, isn’t it?

The days upcoming my twentieth birthday, I felt anxious yet enthusiastic.

Becoming twenty meant starting a whole new decade of my life. And personally, for me, turning twenty signified the “beginning” of my life. These are the decades I know my life will transform. For example, as I turned twenty, a massive change had already taken place; I moved out of my parent’s home and into my own. I can only imagine what’s ahead.

Throughout my 20s I know a lot more will change. I have a feeling this will be the decade I will be proposed to, maybe even be married. I have a feeling this will be the decade I will have my first, maybe even my second child.

It’s all so exciting, but so scary at the same time. It’s bittersweet as some would say. And between you and me, I do hope that blogging will be a part of this decade in my life.

As a final valediction to my teenage years and salutation to my adulthood, I’ll end it with a quote I found about turning twenty years of age:

"At 20,
everything is possible,
and tomorrow looks friendly." - Jim Bishop

  1. Happy Birthday Jes!!! I'm excited for this decade for you too, time is such a vast and unwieldy thing, it must be an odd thing to think that it has been 10 years since you were 10, but at the same time amazing to think of how far you have come. I sincerely hope that blogging remains a part of your life, your blog is a wonderful place.
I hope being twenty treats you well, you deserve all the adventures and joy in the world.

  5. I know exactly how you feel. When I turned 20 at the end of last year I was like, 'oh my god, like I can remember things in minute details from 10 years ago, this is weird. Please let me be a teenager forever!' I don't feel much older but I feel so sad to have left my teens behind :'(

Hope you had a lovely birthday!!

  6. Oh I'm trying not to think about how little time is left until I'm 20, I've never even realised that it's the beginning of my 3rd decade of existence, how crazy! I'm sure your 20's will be wonderful.

  7. Happy belated birthday Jes! 20 is only less than 4 years away from me, but it feels like an eternity away. I can't imagine how i'll be feeling when I'm in your shoes. This new decade for you is just so exciting, and it'd be lovely to see what it brings in store. anyway, Darcey must've been a neat welcome into the big 20!
